The robots are coming: Incredible robot dog

By September 14, 2012Innovation

It’s Friday, so take 90s out of this day to check out this incredible walking robot dog. It has been developed for the military to walk alongside soldiers carrying a load of 400lbs so they don’t have to carry it themselves. It automatically follows its leader, can deal with uneven ground and walk through thick undergrowth. Top speed 7mph.

The dog is still at prototype stage and I’m guessing pretty expensive. If it gets into production for the military the usual patterns will kick in and the cost of production will eventually fall to the point where a consumer version is viable. I want one to carry my picnic hamper when we go for a walk. We can take an extra bottle of wine that way. It could even carry the kids back for us. Bring on the future.

Funny you should post this today. Just yesterday was catching up with where robots were up to, after the Cheetah faster than a human record. While LS3 is cool, Asimo 2012 was the real eye-opener for me.
