Missing from the line-up - at least so far - is Apple. Take a look at what Harry McCracken has to say about that - is Flash support on phones a promise for a multimedia future, or just going to end up meaning those annoying Flash-based ads will also play on your phone, sucking your battery power?

I don't think the apps will ever be identical - due to differences in screen size and input methods most apps will look different on mobile and PC, with the mobile usually being a subset.

Doing it from a single code base is what's key, and that just got closer.

"This brings us a step closer to having one web where we run the same apps across the desktop and mobile platforms. "

Screen size is one obstacle to this outcome that no amount of processing power can overcome. Good development tends to cater to the screen for which the app is built. Certain apps just don't work very well unless the service itself is designed with the platform in mind - and that has to include screen size, as well as other aspects like portability. I believe it applies not only to games, as you mention, but also to other sorts of apps. A trivial example is the pint of guinness app, which just wouldn't make sense on my 18.4" laptop.

It is likely to be more efficient in most cases to create an app for both web and mobile. So there would be a certain tension in bespoke versus cross-platform development. It will depend, I guess, on where the competitive edge is likely to be: developing symbiosis in web and mobile or seeking leadership on one or both platforms independent of each other.
