As I mentioned in Fred's post, I think that a recession is a chance for web-based businesses to thrive.

For consumer oriented apps with an add revenue model CPA and CPC advertising revenue will hold up best.

For business oriented apps with a SaaS subscription model, the pay-as-you-go, nothing upfront, rapid deployment, rapid ROI model has huge appeal to businesses needing to tighten their belts.

If a company has bootstrapped (like we have done at ProofHQ.com) then a recession could be a great opportunity.

Well, you can over analyse all of this and as numbers guys from that world they continue to feed off the data that appears. As you said the right balance in this article, but others will pull the negative out for their own ends, and so the story/theme builds. As the Web Mission heads for the Valley, I will bet the positive forces are still at work at the entrepreneurial level there. Lets make sure we don't talk ourselves out of the game here in the UK, while the Valley players hold their nerve and sweep up as usual in the medium term.
