The 101 alternative list offers some pointers. In more economically pressed areas of the UK there is alternative support (Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland for instance). There are innovation grants, regional job creation grants, business incubation support and so on. These enable you to bootstrap your company and build value which puts you in a stronger position and a safer option for the VC when you need larger funds for scaling your company.</description>
