At any given moment there are 13 million people online at eDonkey. Apparently that is about 50 times the number that are watching YouTube videos.

At least that is what I heard from the Reble guys at Y-Combinator this afternoon.

Nic, when I go to the site http://www.edonkey.com, I get a plain text page with a brief warning about downloading music, and a statement that my IP address has been noted and logged. Is eDonkey being blocked only in the US, or worldwide now? For the record, I’ve never used eDonkey and have never downloaded a music track in my life!

edonkey is the underlying network and is accessible via a number of different clients. The RIAA has been trying to shut them down and has succeeded in closing edonkey and edonkey2000. Several others are still up and running though – try http://www.emule-project.net
