India makes Hollywood look bloated

From the FT this morning:

Bollywood film-makers aree more lean than Hollywood.  They get by on budgets that would barely buy the services of one US film star.

I predict we will see a lot more of this kind of thing.  Hollywood is wedded to a production M.O. of a bygone era.

The world of Bollywood is just the beginning. Bollywood is really about storytelling for adults which if one thinks about it, is what Disney did for children.
one of the largest companies in india, reliance has the aim of building a new animation business that combines the rich history of Indian storytelling with India’s (relatively) low cost labour and the increasing strength of digital processing. they are building their own private national fibre network that will also be used to service the more than 100 digital cinemas that will also be built across India. Distribution of films is expensive even more so in india. the ability to distribute digitally lowers costs dramatically but more importantly increases reach.
lots to learn from these 3 activities alone–worth monitoring
