I share this vision of the future Nicola. It is already starting to happen via technology from a startup called 3B - www.3b.net.

Also I am told that you can walk directly off your profile page on Swedish social network PlayAhead into Second Life.

I imagine that in the near future you will type an Url and then have the possibility to choose between the 2d and the 3d version. For certain applications, 2d is more efficient: i.e., chats work better with bi-dimensional application instead of balloon on avatar heads). For other applications, 3d seems to be more appropriate: i.e., persuasive technologies.
In that Internet I imagine, SL is only one of the possibilities: there is no reason My Space do not become *also* 3d. And do not forget that SL has a 2d map on his website.
We have to learn how to use 3d and we have to develop more convincent technologies: interaction with bots and other artifial objects is now too basic.
Ciao. Nicola
